A proposal is being worked out to spend $350,000 of education money for an Industrial Education Center for Randolph County.

The recommendation came during a joint meeting of Asheboro and Randolph County school administrators.

A public meeting has been scheduled for Jan. 21 to discuss how to use $3,499,970 that’s being requested by the school systems for capital needs.

The state has designated Randolph County as a site for one of several industrial education centers to be established.

Under the agreement, the county would furnish a suitable tract of land and a building. The state would furnish equipment and faculty.

The remaining money will be divided between the two school systems. Asheboro plans to construct a junior high school and make improvements at existing schools. Randolph County will outline specific projects during the meeting.
