Asheboro officials, concerned over delays in plans for a US 220 bypass, have scheduled a meeting with the Streets and Highways Committee of the Asheboro Chamber of Commerce.
The meeting, according to Mayor John C. Bunch, will be to “discuss our next step as far as the bypass in concerned.”
Officials have expressed concern over an apparent delay in scheduling the project. A comprehensive thoroughfare plan, promised by the State Highway Department for delivery in December, has yet to be completed, and this is necessary before other aspects of the bypass can be projected. In addition, highway officials have said that it is doubtful that they can call a public hearing on the project in March, 1960, as promised earlier.
At the public meeting, citizens would be given an opportunity to see the proposed route of the bypass and then a definite route would be determined.

Jerry Rowe of Asheboro High School has been named to the first team of the 1959 All-America high school football squad.
It was the first time an Asheboro player has won a position on the first team of the mythical club, which is selected each year by more than 6,000 sports writers, broadcasters, coaches and officials.
Two other players from Randolph County received honorable mention to the All-America team. AHS quarterback Ed “Strawberry” Wheless and Bill Lineberry, fullback at Randleman High, were honored as well.
AHS Coach Lee J. Stone is quoted as saying, “In my 26 years of coaching, Jerry is one of the finest ends I’ve had under my direction. Needless to say, he’s a terrific college prospect.”
