ASHEBORO — As summer approaches, Asheboro City Schools is reaching out to the community to help “Bridge the Summer Reading Gap” by making sure all students have access to books in their home. As reading expert Richard Allington points out, “young readers who don’t continue to read over the summer, especially those who are reluctant or at-risk are likely to lose crucial ground.”
To facilitate summer reading, Asheboro City Schools will collect books to distribute to students at the city’s five elementary schools. The goal is to provide books to as many students as possible. The more books collected means more opportunities for students.
Gently used or new books appropriate for elementary students (K-5) can be dropped off between now and May 5 at Asheboro City Schools Central Office, 1126 S. Park St.; Carolina Bank, 335 S. Fayetteville St.; or Chick-fil-A, 1212 E. Dixie Drive.
Financial contributions can be sent to the Central Office at the address above. Checks should be made out to Asheboro City Schools.
