Marley awarded scholarship

ASHEBORO — Asheboro High School senior Daniel Marley received the Shel Grantham Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500 during award ceremonies on June 3. Marley best represents the qualities of Shel Grantham and has been a valuable asset for the Blue Comet football, soccer and tennis teams.

The Shel Grantham Memorial Scholarship was established in the early 1980’s following Shel’s tragic death at age 16. Shel was a fun-loving young man, friendly, dedicated to high ideals and active in many sports at Asheboro High School.

Derrick and Jan Grantham, sister Julie and her husband Ronnie Lucas, and Shel’s many friends have maintained this scholarship over the years.
