Remember the old saying, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks?” Well, I am about ready to agree with it. About 10 years ago when I moved up from my regular word processor to my first computer, I was lost. To be honest, I was totally ignorant. Now, I was 60-years-old. Thank God for my daughters, my best friend and everyone else I was able to get a lesson from. My daughter wrote out the steps, but I never did master setting the margins to do my church bulletins. They finally had to set up some for me and I used the same preset margins over and over. I named a sheet right side typing, one was called left side typing and I had a both sides typing. I used them until I wore them out and they had to be set again.
Last year it was requested that all Relay for Life team captains register their teams online rather than the previous paper forms. At the meeting mine was the only hand I saw when it was asked if anyone did not have access to the internet. So at the age of 70 I thought it was time for me to move up to this century. From Raleigh, Winston-Salem and across town, daughters had to come to help Mama with the internet. I still haven’t mastered sending attached e-mails. I was able to do it once but I haven’t been able to do it again.
My 10-year old computer has finally died a slow death. Now at 71 I’m starting all over again. This one is so different. Now I say thank God for my grandchildren and my niece. They have helped me. I purchased a book “For Dummies.” Now if I can understand the book, I’ll be alright.

I know you all are not interested in reading about me. Do you want to know how to avoid it? Give me something to write about. To the woman who called from the Washington, D.C., area. “Thank you.” You take this paper because you are interested in what’s going on back here. Your friends back here are interested in you and your family. Feel free to call me if you have anything you would like to share. Remember it’s not just Out 49 – it’s Out 49 & Beyond. Thanks also to the women from Greensboro and Asheboro.
