Volunteer View – Human Race benefits

The Human Race on March 21 is off to a running start. The Volunteer Center of Randolph County is pleased to report that we have started receiving donations from area runners to benefit nonprofits within our community.

In January, I wrote about The Human Race, but thought it wouldn’t hurt to mention it once again from a different perspective.

I want to make sure that the non-profits, runners, walkers and families understand the benefit this race has on our community.

For all of the non-profits our there in Randolph County, chances are your organization has been involved at one time or another in planning and executing a fundraiser.

If planned well, you walk away feeling, “YEAH, that was a great event!”

What happens post-event is not so much fun.

The expenses start flowing in and you write those checks while watching your revenues diminish.

Well, guess what? The great thing about The Human Race is that you have no expense for putting on the event.

The Volunteer Center of Randolph County, through generous sponsor support, absorbs all of the expenses.

All your organization has to do is be creative on how you are going to raise your funds.

There are no checks to write for vendors, food and/or advertising.

You raise your money and receive your funds soon after the event.

For the community, I want to make sure you understand the incentives that The Volunteer Center of Randolph County has created to ensure that you benefit from raising money for your local non-profits.

Any community individual that decides to raise money and walk/run for an organization within Randolph will be subject to receiving a top fundraising check for either $500, $250 or $150.

Yes, we give back to those who try hard to support our non-profits.

Let me be clear that this is the top three people who raise the most money for the whole Human Race, not for each organization.

For you runners out there, this is a certified 5K course through USA Track and Field.

The race is coordinated and timed by Asheboro Parks and Recreation.

There are trophies for first, second and third in a men’s and women’s division.

Thank you to The Trophy Shop for providing such nice awards.

For all of you dog lovers out there, remember we have the Mutt Strut put on by the Humane Society of Randolph County.

After the awards ceremony for runners, there will be an award ceremony with trophies for first, second and third place canine.

For all of you walkers and families out there, please bring your baby strollers, toddlers and kids.

After the runners start the race at 10 a.m., families walk and/or hang out at the park and enjoy the music provided by Vuncannons music.

There will be free snacks and hotdogs for the public to enjoy. It is a wonderful half-day event for everyone.

Also, Emily Byrd with WGHP Fox 8 will be our Torch Carrier. The Volunteer Center is so excited to have this coverage for our Randolph County charities on March 21.

Hope to see all of you there and if you have been thinking about volunteering, I will be there, along with about 40 of our local non-profits, to answer any questions you may have about volunteering.

The Human Race is one of my favorite things that we do here at The Volunteer Center.

It is such a great way for everyone to get involved in supporting our non-profits and the services that they provide to so many of us in Randolph County.

If you are interested in volunteering and/or signing up to participate in The Human Race on March 21, e-mail me at amy@uwrandolph.org or call The Volunteer Center at 336-626-6643.

Hope to see you there!
