Great things are going on this summer at the 4-H office. One of the best things (I think) we do at 4-H is to connect youth with opportunities. One of the most formative youth experiences is summer camp.
At 4-H we certainly get it right. With several different ways to experience camp, 4-H hits them all. We have lots of youth attending camps throughout the summer and I had the honor of transporting some great young people to Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H camp in Reidsville recently.
This was a traditional camp experience that hosted our youth Sunday to Friday with genuine cabins, bug spray and campfire songs. All of our campers enjoyed the week while making some lifelong friends.
Campers came home tired and hot but ready to do it all over again.
The following youth participated: Maurice Goldston, Desiree Goldston, Tyke Stickler, C.J. Stickler, Monica Stickler, Richard Crabtree, Jacob Roberts, Zoe Roberts, Sadie Walker and Anna Laton. Ben Talbott attended as a 4-H Leader In Training. A special thank you to Jason Goldston who chaperoned camp the entire week.
A special kudos to Randolph County 4-Her Yoselin Perez on a successful trip to Raleigh for Citizenship NC Focus. Yoselin represented Randolph County 4-H superbly while taking in some great workshops on civic education.
This annual three-day event is a great way to learn more about state government as well as meeting with the legislators who represent our community.
The following 4-H members traveled to Person County on June 23 for North Central District Presentations.
Congratulations to the following 4-H youth: Rachel Osborne presenting on Livestock and Livestock Production winning a silver medal, Laura Allred presenting on Health and Fitness winning a silver medal and Heather Allred presenting on Health and Fitness and winning a gold medal.
Heather Allred and Rachel Osborne will be presenting in Raleigh for state competition.
We will also have poster art work done by Rachel Osborne of the Country Kids Livestock Club and Adam Frazier of the Happy Heifer Dairy Club competing in state competitions in Raleigh at NC 4-H Congress.
Evan Gunter of the Country Kids Livestock Club will be traveling to Raleigh to compete in the N.C. 4-H Poultry Judging Competition as well.
