EL PASO, Texas — Asheboro native William Mark Strider was promoted to lieutenant colonel in a ceremony at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas on Nov. 1.
Strider, a graduate of Asheboro High School, graduated from Campbell University in 1993 and was designated a Distinguished Military Graduate with a Regular Army Commission in the Medical Service Corps.
He later received a master of arts degree in procurement and acquisition management from Webster University in 1999.
Strider has held numerous leadership and staff positions during his career including Division Medical Supply Officer (DMSO), 82d Airborne Division; Ambulance Platoon Leader and Executive Officer, C Company, 782d Main Support Battalion, 82d Airborne Division; Medical Platoon Leader, 2d Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division; Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 56th Medical Evacuation Battalion (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Combat Developer, U.S. Army Medical Department Center and School; Force Medical Supply Officer, Multinational Force and Observers, Sinai, Egypt; Operations Officer (S3), Support Operations Officer, and Accountable Officer, 32d Medical Logistics Battalion (Airborne); Task Force 44 S4 (Afghanistan); Deputy G4, 44th Medical Command (Airborne); Executive Officer, 32d Multifunctional Medical Battalion (Iraq), and Station Officer in Charge and Healthcare Recruiter, 3d Medical Recruiting Battalion.
Strider is currently serving as the chief of the Logistics Division at William Beaumont Army Medical Center at Fort Bliss, Texas.
His military education includes the Command and General Staff Officer's Course, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School (CAS3), the U.S. Army Medical Department’s Basic and Advanced Courses, the U.S. Army Jumpmaster School, the Support Operations Course, and the Healthcare Recruiter Course.
During his career, Strider has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal (2); the Meritorious Service Medal (5); the Army Commendation Medal (4); the Army Achievement Medal (4), the Good Conduct Medal, and the Overseas Ribbon (2). He also wears the Expert Field Medical Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, the Australian Parachutist Badge and the Gold Recruiter Badge.
Strider is the son of Billy and Carolyn Strider of Asheboro.
