John Adams

ASHEBORO – John Adams, 71, of Asheboro, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at his home.

A memorial service was held Feb. 23, 2010, at Pugh Funeral Home in Randleman. Burial was at Salisbury National Cemetery.

He was a Memphis, Tenn., native.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Adams; stepmother, Jacqueline Adams of Palmdale, Calif.; siblings, Jess Adams of Thailand, Betty Durham of Spokane, Wash., Danny Adams of Templeton, Calif., Joceile White of Smithsburg, Md., Phillip Adams of Palmdale, Calif.; and Jared Adams of Lancaster, Calif.; children, Pamela O’Neal of Virginia Beach, Va., John Adams Jr. of Ridgecrest, Calif., Mark Adams of Randleman, Robert Adams of Jacksonville, Fla., and Richard Adams of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepchildren; one stepgrandchild; one stepgreat-grandchild.

Frances L. Amador

LIBERTY – Frances Ledbetter Amador, 54, of 8022 Oak Ridge Church Road, died Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at her home.

The funeral was held Feb. 18, 2010, at Liberty Grove United Methodist Church. Burial was at the church cemetery.

She was a Gastonia native.

Survivors include sons, Billy Ray Langley Jr., Jonathan Amador and Nicolas Agundiz, all of Liberty; daughters, Connie Raya of Liberty and Rena Ann York of Siler City; brother, Dickie Ledbetter of Liberty; sisters, Vickie Moreno of Ramseur, Jannie Fogleman of Liberty and Diane Kiester of Fremont, Mich.; 10 grandchildren.



Rufus ‘Matt’ Ball

ASHEBORO – Rufus Elmer “Matt” Ball, 63, of 605 N.C. 42 S., died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held Feb. 18, 2010, at Iron Mountain Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Pete Lamb officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a Homer, Ga., native and retired from the Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Hulsey Ball of the home; daughter, Nicky Stroud of Chattanooga, Tenn.; son, Chris Ball of Chattanooga, Tenn.; seven grandchildren.



Hazel B. Burns

ASHEBORO – Hazel Bon Burns, 91, of 736 Burns Farm Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held Feb. 21, 2010, at Loflin Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Joyce officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a Randolph County native, widow of Odell Burns, homemaker and attended Holly Spring Friends Meeting.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Peter J. Ching

ASHEBORO – Peter Joseph Ching, 49, of 1410 First St., died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Moses Cone Hospital.

The funeral was held Feb. 18, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Christopher Davis officiating. Burial was at New Hope Memorial Gardens.

He was an Oneida, N.Y., native and owner of Superior Paving.

Survivors include his wife, Therese Ching of the home; daughters, Nicole Hunt and Shannon Ching, both of Asheboro, and Tanya Ching of the home; sons, Matthew Ching, Daniel Ching and Dominic Ching, all of the home; parents, Donald and Patricia Ching of Westmoreland, N.Y.; sisters, Donna Medlin of Asheboro, Anne Marie Storey of Frankfort, N.Y., and Patricia Becker of Westmoreland, N.Y.; brothers, Donald Cinque of Utica, N.Y., and James Cinque of Syracuse, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren.

Robert C. Coltrane Jr.

ARCHDALE – Robert Claude Coltrane Jr., 80, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010.

The funeral was held Feb. 21, 2010, at Sechrest Funeral Home with the Rev. Ben Hurley officiating. Burial was at Cedar Square Friends Meeting cemetery.

He was a Guilford County native, widower of Huldah Osborne Coltrane, Allen Jay High School graduate, operated a dairy, retired from FCX and was a member of Cedar Square Friends Meeting.

Survivors include his wife, Vickie Shaver Coltrane of the home; daughters, Barbara C. Bullin and Sandra Coltrane Sims, both of Greensboro, and Susan Coltrane of Archdale; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Richard A. Cox

ASHEBORO – Richard Arlin Cox, 72, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The funeral was held Feb. 18, 2010, at Calvary United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Lee Pollock and the Rev. David Spaulding officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a Randolph County native and retired from Lowe’s Hardware.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Chisholm Cox; daughters, Shannon Cox Wise of Florence, S.C., and Andrea Cox Underwood of Asheboro; sister, Margaret Jo Ely of Randleman; brothers, Robert Cox of Randleman and Jimmy Cox of Escondido, Calif.; four grandchildren.

Sadie G. Crutchfield

RAMSEUR – Sadie Green Crutchfield, 89, of 2390 Parks Cross Roads Church Road, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at Randolph Hospital.

A graveside service was held Feb. 23, 2010, at Parks Crossroads Christian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Randy Kelley officiating.

She was a Stanly County native and retired from General Electric.

Survivors include daughter, Linda Caudle Moser of Ramseur; son, John D. Crutchfield Jr. of Ramseur; sister, Dovie Green Brady of Ramseur; brothers, Joseph D. Evans of Boulder County, Colo., and Ed F. Evans of Stem; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Jerry M. Farrington

RANDLEMAN – Jerry Marshall Farrington, 69, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at his home.

A memorial service was held Feb. 19, 2010, at George Brothers Funeral Service with the Rev. Patrick Fuller officiating.

He was a Guilford County native and retired from Fordham’s Drug Store.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hicks Farrington of the home; several nephews and a niece.

Lucille C. Hall

ASHEBORO – Mary Lucille Caldwell Hall, 94, of Cross Road Retirement Community, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held Feb. 21, 2010, at Oakhurst Baptist Church, where she attended, with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Entombment was at Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a Huntersville native, widow of L. Dwight Hall and retired from Stedman Manufacturing.

Survivors include daughter, Susan Cupp of Asheville; sister, Jolene Maclean of Haw River; brothers, Norman Caldwell of Englewood, Fla., Marvin Caldwell of Twin Falls, Idaho, Bobby Caldwell of Asheboro, and Kenneth Caldwell of McCayesville, Ga.; one grandson.

Sherry E. Hicks

ASHEBORO – Sherry E. Hicks, 65, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at her home.

The funeral was held Feb. 18, 2010, at Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty, with Pastor Darrell Garner officiating. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby G. Hicks of the home; daughters, Deborah Lewis of Siler City, Laurie A. Mabe of High Point and Tara L. Reynolds of Robbins; son, Michael W. Mabe of Siler City; stepdaughters, Lori Hicks of Staley and Jean Whitt of Liberty; stepson, Greg Hicks of Siler City; seven grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren.



Nath Jones

LIBERTY – Nathaniel “Nath” Jones died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at Chatham Hospital.

The funeral was held Feb. 21, 2010, at the Church of God of Prophecy. Burial was at Amos Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include daughter, Kelly Jones of Greensboro; sisters, Lucille Gilmer, Rhonda Jones and Priscilla Lockhart, all of Liberty, Betty Spinks and Elizabeth Comer, both of Greensboro, and Sandra Davis of Tampa, Fla.; one grandchild.



Martha O. Kinney

ASHEBORO – Martha Odessa Kinney, 75, of 2766 Buffalo Ford Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at Randolph Health & Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service was held Feb. 20, 2010, at Mountain of Faith Christian Church, where she attended, with the Rev. Thurman Williams officiating.

She was a Randolph County native and retired from KFC.

Survivors include daughter, Phyllis Owenby of Randleman; son, Kenneth McClintock of Asheboro; sister, Odelia Luck of Asheboro; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.



C. Wayne Lawhorn

ASHEBORO – Carl Wayne Lawhorn, 49, of Apt. C, 629 S. Cox St., died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at his home.

Graveside service was Feb. 23, 2010, at Sunset Knoll Cemetery, Ramseur, with Oscar Daniel officiating.

He was a Martinsville, Va., native.

Survivors include daughter, Kim White of Liberty; sons, Eric Lawhorn of Asheboro and Mitchell Lawhorn of Avondale, Ariz.; mother, Alice Daniel Lawhorn of Asheboro; sisters, Emmajean Frazier of Bear Creek, Janie Powers of Ramseur and Diane Lawhorn of Liberty; brother, William “Billy” Lawhorn of Lexington; four grandchildren.



James G. Lednum

ASHEBORO – James Garland Lednum, 74, of 437 Foxfire Road, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at Moses Cone Hospital.

The funeral was held Feb. 23, 2010, at Pleasant Ridge Christian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Paul Griffin, the Rev. Garry Arnett and the Rev. John Gunter officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

He was a Randolph County native, retired from Hancock Ham, former member of the Franklinville Fire Department and Ramseur Lions Club, and a Boy Scout leader.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline “Polly” Brown Lednum of the home; daughter, Sandra Lindsay of Asheboro; sisters, Lois Richardson of Ramseur, Elizabeth Jessup of Bartlett, Tenn., Phyllis Denzler of Memphis, Tenn., and Sue Wright of Greenville, S.C.; brothers, C.L. Lednum of Franklinville, Carson Lednum of Randleman, Gilbert Lednum of Asheboro, Lexie Lednum of Lexington, Jarrett Lednum of Ramseur and Benny Lednum of Easley, S.C.; one grandson.



Mary H. Mabe

PLEASANT GARDEN – Mary H. Mabe, 81, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at her home.

The funeral was held Feb. 23, 2010, at Loflin Funeral Home with the Rev. L.N. Stanley officiating.

She was the widow of Elzie Lem Mabe.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Mabe; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren.



Virginia Martin

ASHEBORO – Virginia Martin, 569 Lord Randolph Circle, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at Moses Cone Hospital.

The funeral was held Feb. 19, 2010, at Gailes Funeral Home.

She was a former employee of Burlington Industries and member of the Church of God of Prophecy.

Survivors include her husband, Monroe Martin of the home; daughters, Virgail Martin of Asheboro, Schawanna M. Harris of Thomasville and Felecia M. Miller of Greensboro; son, Shaun Martin of Asheboro; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.



Bobby W. Moore

RANDLEMAN – Bobby Wayne Moore, 71, of 176 Idlewild Drive, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Moses Cone Hospital.

A memorial service was held Feb. 21, 2010, at Christian Fellowship Church with the Rev. David Hunt officiating.

He was a Stokes County native and photographer with School Pictures Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Cecilia Jo Moore of the home; daughter, Cheryl Moore Woodward of Conway, S.C.; son, Douglas Wayne Moore of Aurora, Colo.; stepson, Tony Hendrix of Randleman; brothers, Everette Moore of Winston-Salem and Don Moore of King; half brothers, Rick and Roger; half sisters, Robin and Ronda; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Helen Pennington

RANDLEMAN – Helen Jean Pennington, 46, of 968 Delta Drive, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at Randolph Health & Rehabilitation.

A memorial service was held Feb. 20, 2010, at Randleman Friends Meeting, where she was a member, with the Rev. Wade Craven officiating. Burial was at Mount Zion, W.Va.

She was a Norfolk, Va., native and formerly employed by Sunbridge Care & Rehabilitation.

Surviving is her husband, Mark Hugh Pennington

Thomas H. Pugh

ASHEBORO – Thomas Herbert Pugh, 81, of Sunbridge Care & Rehabilitation, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Randolph Hospital.

A graveside service was held Feb. 19, 2010, at Liberty Road Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Don Ashley officiating.

He was a Randolph County native, farmer, and had worked at Randolph Mills and Prestige Fabricators.

Survivors include sisters, Ruby Lovette and Helen Hutchens, both of Franklinville.



Rosa Robbins

ASHEBORO – Rosa Pearl Robbins, 82, of 415 Hill St., died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at Randolph Health & Rehabilitation.

The funeral was held Feb. 22, 2010, at Pugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Brown officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a Randolph County native and member of Hilltop Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Britt Robbins; daughters, Sandi Leonard of Raleigh and Sharon Powell of Asheboro; son, Gary Robbins of High Point; sisters, Doris Hicks of Trinity and Daisy Jacobs of Archdale; brothers, Kenneth Hill of Trinity, Ned Hill of High Point and Joe Hill of Wash.; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO – James Floyd Shelton, 81, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at Wesley Long Community Hospital.

The funeral was held Feb. 22, 2010, at Trinity Church, where he was a member. Burial with military honors was at Guilford Memorial Park.

He was an Air Force veteran, pilot and owner of Henry James Bar-B-Que of Asheboro.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda Shelton of the home; daughter, Melissa Dunn of Greensboro; two grandchildren.

John A. “Buck” Trotter

ASHEBORO – John Austin “Buck” Trotter, 82, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at his home.

The funeral was held Feb. 20, 2010, at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Cole, the Rev. Jody Harrison and the Rev. Claudie Harrison officiating.

Burial was at the church cemetery.

He was a Randolph County native, widower of Mary Ann Hunt Trotter, World War II and Korean War Army veteran, retired from FCX/Southern States and a Baptist.

Survivors include daughters, Brenda Cole, Vonna “Red” Olson and Donna Key, all of Asheboro, Judy Cook of Denton, and Janet Beasley of Sophia; sons, Larry Trotter and Ricky Trotter, both of Asheboro; sister, Evelyn Bunting of Asheboro; brothers, Charles Trotter of Opelika, Ala., Joseph Trotter of Welcome; 10 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Rachel B. Twiddy

LIBERTY – Rachel Hallie Brower Twiddy, 92, of Liberty, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held Feb. 21, 2010, at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Brian Harrington and the Rev. Jack Livingston officiating. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery.

She was the widow of William Charles Twiddy, World War II Army Nurse Corps veteran, served with Meals on Wheels and member of Liberty Garden Club.

Survivors include daughter, Martha Medlar of Liberty; son, Charles B. Twiddy of Laurel; sister, Juanita Stevenson of Liberty; one granddaughter.
