Chester Belk Jr.

ASHEBORO – Chester Belk Jr. of 451 Greensboro St., died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at Moses Cone Hospital.

The funeral was held Jan. 24, 2010, at Bailey’s Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member.

Survivors include daughters, Janet Marie Green Lee of Asheboro and Kay Baldwin of China Grove; brother, Nathaniel Belk Sr. of Asheboro; two grandsons; five great-grandchildren.



Joe John Cassett

ASHEBORO – Joe John Cassett, 76, formerly of Colony Road, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at Salem Terrace in Winston- Salem.

The funeral was held Jan. 27, 2010, at Pugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Christopher Davis officiating. Burial with military honors was at Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a New Hall, W.Va., native, Korean War Navy veteran, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, graduate of Seton Hall University and retired from Burlington Industries.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Pruett Cassett; stepson, Myrix Webster Newman Jr. of Asheboro; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Howard W. Chriscoe

RANDLEMAN – Howard Weldon Chriscoe, 74, of 412 Fox St., died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held Jan. 24, 2010, at Randleman Church of God with the Rev. Troy Wilhelm and the Rev. Lee Carter officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a Randolph County native and retired from Commonwealth Hosiery.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Graves Chriscoe of the home; daughters, Brenda Chriscoe Hunt of Randleman and Beverly Lynn Chriscoe of Cameron; son, Larry Weldon Chriscoe of Cameron; sisters, Eva Mae Chriscoe of Asheboro, Edna Graves of Randleman and Betty C. Greene of Biscoe; brother, Vern Dee Chriscoe of Asheboro; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Anna S. Fallon

GREENSBORO – Anna Shaw Fallon, 67, of 702-B Glendale Drive, died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at Golden Living Center-Starmount.

No service was planned.

She was a Randolph County native and retired from Venosan North America.

Survivors include her husband, Walt Fallon; parents, Worth Odell and Sarah Boswell Shaw; brothers, Carson Shaw and Dennis Shaw, both of Asheboro.



William F. Fancher

FRANKLINVILLE – William Franklin Fancher, 71, of 387 Park St., died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held Jan. 23, 2010, at Loflin Funeral Home with the Rev. Burton King officiating.

He was a Sweetwater, Tenn., native and retired general contractor.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Fancher of Franklinville; sons, Donald Fancher of Franklinville and Billy Joe Fancher of Chesterton, Ind.; sisters, Mae Grayson of Knoxville, Tenn., Edith Gladden of Valparaiso, Ind., Elizabeth Kitt of Maynardville, Tenn., Ellen Clabo of Dillwyn, Va., Sandra Shumate of Richwood, Va., and Carol Ann Swink of Prospect, Va.; brother, James R. Fancher of Valparaiso, Ind.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Dempsey E. Gatlin

ASHEBORO – Dempsey Edward Gatlin, 87, formerly of Brook Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at Randolph Hospital.

The funeral was held Jan. 25, 2010, at Oakhurst Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Burial was at Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a Randolph County native, widower of Esther Gatlin, 1943 Seagrove High School graduate, former jailer for the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department, retired from the Asheboro Fire Department and later claims adjuster for Carolina Farmers Mutual Insurance.

Survivors include daughter, Ann Cranford of Asheboro; sons, Joe Gatlin, Roger Gatlin, Don Gatlin and Mark Gatlin, all of Asheboro; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Helen Y. Grazier

FRANKLINVILLE – Helen York Grazier, 74, of 518 E. Main St., died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at Universal Health Care.

The funeral was held Jan. 24, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Franklinville, where she was a member, with the Rev. Steven Cox and the Rev. Kenneth McNeil officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

She was a Randolph County native and retired from G.E./Black & Decker.

Survivors include her husband, J.L. “Jerry” Grazier of the home; sister, Faye Cox of Asheboro; nieces and nephews.

Winnabelle S. Greene

LIBERTY – Winnabelle “Winnie” Sager Greene, 81, of Liberty, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010.

A graveside service was held Jan. 22, 2010, at Smithwood United Church of Christ cemetery.

She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and taught Sunday school there and at Smithwood.

Survivors include sons, Tom Greene of Selma, Ore., David Greene of Smithfield, Va., and John Greene of Liberty; sister, Annabelle Loucks of Kent, Wash.; two grandsons.



Frances H. Hall

ASHEBORO – Mary Frances Hammer Hall, 71, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at her home.

The funeral was held Jan. 23, 2010, at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. John Rogers officiating. Burial was at Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a Chatham County native and widow of Homer Glenn Hall Jr.

Survivors include daughter, Lisa Hall of Raleigh; sons, Glenn Hall of High Point and Philip Hall of Asheboro; mother, Kathleen Hammer of Siler City; brother, Charles Hammer of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two grandchildren.

Cindy Hancock

GOLDSBORO – Cynthia Lorraine “Cindy” Hancock, 44, of 400 Old Smithfield Road, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral was held Jan. 20, 2010, at Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Ayers officiating. Burial was at Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a Randolph County native.

Survivors include parents, Jerry and Nancy Hancock of Randleman; sister, Amy H. Rudisill of Denton; brother, Jerry T. Hancock Jr. of Asheboro; grandmother, Bessie Hancock of Asheboro.



Randal B. Hill

ASHEBORO – Randal Bryan Hill, 53, formerly of Asheboro, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Greensboro.

A memorial service will be held Jan. 31, 2010, at Level Cross United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Visitation will follow.

He was an Asheboro native and graduate of Santa Fe Community College, University of West Florida and Vermont Law School.

Survivors include daughter, Diana Hill of Rutland, Vt.; son, Alex Hill of Rutland, Vt.; parents, Lucille Hanner Hill and Earl Bryan Hill of Asheboro; brother, Gregory Hill of Asheboro.



Mildred H. Hunt

ASHEBORO – Mary Mildred Hoover Hunt, 86, of 620 Cascade Ave., died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at her home.

The funeral was held Jan. 23, 2010, at Mt. Pleasant Community Church with Dr. Dewey Cheek officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

She was a Randolph County native and widow of Joseph Paul Hunt.

Survivors include daughters, Rebecca Lowrance and Wanda Woodard, both of Asheboro; sons, William Lloyd Hunt and Paul Douglas Hunt, both of Asheboro; brother, Nathan Bill Hoover of High Point; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.



Madge Ludwig

ASHEBORO – Mary Madgedalene “Madge” Haithcock Ludwig, 83, formerly of Walnut Street, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at Universal Health Care.

The funeral was held Jan. 21, 2010, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ralph Kraft officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a Montgomery County native, widow of Richard A. “Pat” Ludwig Jr. and retired from Burlington Industries.

Survivors include daughter, Karen Ludwig Thatcher of Asheboro; son, Kenneth M. Ludwig of Kernersville; three grandchildren.

Jessie R. Massey

RANDLEMAN – Jessie Routh Massey, 93, of 217 New Salem Road, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at Clapp’s Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden.

The funeral was held Jan. 21, 2010, at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Pastor Chris Heppding and the Rev. Kenneth Reaves officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a Randolph County native.

Survivors include her husband, Phelton Massey of the home; daughter, Jill Massey Smith of Batesburg, S.C.; sisters, Kate Hollingsworth and Bobby Lineberry, both of Randleman, Helen Campbell of Sophia and Gladys Brown of Franklinville; brothers, Thomas Routh of Randleman, Milton “Mit” Routh of Franklinville and Clinton “Spud” Routh of Baltimore, Md.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Jean D. Newton

ASHEBORO – Jean Dewhirst Newton, 86, of 450 Mountain Top Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at her home.

A memorial service was held Jan. 23, 2010, at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, where she was a member, with the Rev. Barbara Cooke officiating.

She was a Haverhill, Mass., native, Colby Junior College graduate, served as a WAVE in the Navy during World War II, Girl Scout volunteer and docent with the North Carolina Zoo.

Survivors include her husband, Feaster Herrick Newton; daughters, Jean Newton Smith of Concord, Jennifer Newton Yow of Asheboro and Deborah Newton Raker of Southport; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Bill T. Payne

ASHEBORO – Bill T. Payne, 80, of Asheboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010.

A memorial service was held Jan. 21, 2010, at Calvary United Methodist Church.

He was the widower of Geraldine Patterson Payne, retired from Asheboro City Schools and a minister.

Survivors include his wife, Jettie York Payne; children, Donna Ferguson and Betty Carol Luffman; stepchildren, Annette York, Greg York and Doug York; brother, Dewey Payne; sisters, Doris Garrett, Della Farlow and Betty Payne; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren.

LIBERTY – Earnest Dean “Bud Man” Richardson, 70, of Liberty, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010.

The funeral was held Jan. 22, 2010, at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, with the Rev. Mark Wilburn officiating.

Burial was at Mt. Zion Baptist Church cemetery.

Survivors include daughter, Rose Marie “Rosie” Jacobs of Asheboro; sons, Dean Richardson and Brian Richardson of Fremont, Mich.; sisters, Evelyn Williams and Brenda Garrett, both of Liberty, Cathy Adams of Prospect Hill and Sherry Gravely of Siler City; four grandchildren.



Keith Richardson

SEAGROVE – Gary Keith Richardson, 79, of Seagrove, died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010.

The funeral was held Jan. 25, 2010, at Hunt’s Plank Road Chapel with the Rev. Clay Davis officiating.

Burial with military honors was at Suggs Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

He was a Seagrove native, widower of Erlene Poole Richardson, 1948 Seagrove High School graduate, Korean War Marine veteran, attended Asheboro Commercial College, worked for Union Carbide, attended Suggs Creek Church and active in the Seagrove Volunteer Fire Department and Little League.

Survivors include daughters, Sue Deaton of Seagrove, and Celia Moody and Lisa Robbins, both of Asheboro; sons, Richard Ledwell of Candor, and Steven Richardson and Robert Richardson, both of Seagrove; sister, Kay Craven of Asheboro; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Frank T. Rose

ASHEBORO – Frank Thomas Rose, 66, of 3564 Sam Jackson Road, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at UNC Hospitals.

The funeral was held Jan. 26, 2010, at Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial with military honors was at Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a Randolph County native, Vietnam War Army veteran, firefighter for the City of Asheboro, member of Community Fellowship Church and Balfour Masonic Lodge, past state commander for the American Legion, life member of American Legion posts #45 and #240, co-founded the Randolph County Honor Guard and the Randolph County Veterans Council, designed the Randolph County Veterans Memorial, member of the Disabled Sportsman Committee for the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission and 1995 recipient of the Governor’s Volunteer Award.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Keeling Rose of the home; son, Jeffrey Thomas Rose of Cheyenne, Wyo.; mother, Beulah M. Smith of Seagrove; sister, Anita Kennedy of Seagrove; two grandchildren.

Linda B. Roudabush

STALEY – Linda Baker Roudabush, 61, of Staley, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Kindred Hospital.

A memorial service was held Jan. 20, 2010, at Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty, with the Rev. Christopher Davis officiating.

She was the widow of Frederick Francis Busiere Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Julian Paul Roudabush III; daughters, Marie Evelyn Busiere, Jennifer Wandalynn Busiere, Laurali Lynn Busiere Lee and Donnamae Dorothy Busiere Fine; son, Frederick Francis Busiere III; brothers, Jerry Baker, Randy Baker, Bruce Baker and James Baker; nine grandchildren.



Nellie C. Smith

LIBERTY – Nellie Coble Smith, 97, of Liberty, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at Alamance Health Care.

The funeral was held Jan. 22, 2010, at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with the Rev. Aaron Moss and the Rev. Chris Phelps officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

She was the widow of Claude Julius Smith.Survivors include daughter, Hilda Holder; son, Terry Smith; brother, Vernon Coble; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

SOPHIA – Dennis Alton Vaughn, 82, of Lot 9, 4570 Nelson Park Road, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Hospice Home at High Point.

A memorial service was held Jan. 23, 2010, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Randleman, where he was a member and elder.

He was a Chesterfield, S.C., native and carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred S. Vaughn of the home; daughters, Margie V. Eacho of Surf City, Gale V. Mast of Concord and Sherry V. Kitchin of Thomasville; brother, Boyce Vaughn of High Point; sister, Mary Moore of Boone; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.



Eunice L. Williams

ASHEBORO – Eunice Lester Williams, 90, of 4462 Happy Hollow Road, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at Randolph Hospital.

A graveside service was held Jan. 26, 2010, at Flag Springs United Methodist Church with the Rev. J.C. Miles officiating.

He was a Randolph County native and retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation. Surviving is grandson, Benjamin Needham of the home.



Beate G. Wright

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Beate “Squaddie” Graves Wright, formerly of Liberty, N.C., died in Washington, D.C.

A graveside service was held Jan. 21, 2010, at Amos Grove Cemetery in Liberty, N.C.



Sandi Yodhes

ASHEBORO – Sandra Jean “Sandi” Tupper Yodhes, 61, of 5051 King View Road, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at her home.

The funeral was held Jan. 22, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Seagrove with Pastor Ben Ramsaur and the Rev. Jimmy Austin officiating. Burial was at New Hope Memorial Gardens.

She was a Flint, Mich., native and retired CNA.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Yodhes of the home; daughter, Melody A. Mills of Roanoke, Va.; son, Michael J. Grasse of Climax; stepbrother, David Gauvin of Michigan; five grandchildren.



John Yow Jr.

ASHEBORO – John Yow Jr., 86, of 824 Corwith St., died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

The funeral was held Jan. 23, 2010, at Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Beane officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a Davidson County native, widower of Edith Reeder Yow, World War II Air Force veteran, retired from Rampon Products and member of Foster Street Wesleyan Church.

Survivors include son, Eugene Medford Yow of High Point; sister, Bernice Yow of Asheboro; two grandchildren.
