He was a native of Naples, Italy, a longtime resident of Randolph County, a former Asheboro police officer and a bondsman for the last 14 years.

ASHEBORO – Barbara Frances Sears Bell, 77, of 500 Mountain Top Drive in Asheboro, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Clapp’s Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro.

ASHEBORO – John Howard Redding, 73, of Asheboro, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009.

He was a native of New Orleans, La., received his bachelor of arts degree from Davidson College in 1960, his J.D. from the University of North Carolina in 1964, served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1958, was an attorney, an artist, founding board member of Randolph Bank and Trust Company, serving from 1977 to 2008, was active in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and contributor to the Randolph Arts Guild and Ducks Unlimited of Randolph County.

ASHEBORO – Helen York Spencer of Asheboro died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at Randolph Hospital.
The funeral was held Jan. 5, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in Asheboro, with the Rev. Michael Holder and the Rev. George Roberson officiating.
She was a 1933 graduate of Asheboro High School, graduate of Woman’s College in Greensboro, where she received a business degree, a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Asheboro, served as president of the Wesleyan Service Guild in the church, served as district secretary to the High Point District Wesleyan Service Guild of the Western North Carolina Conference of the Methodist Church, had been active in and served as president of the Asheboro Chapter of the Business & Professional Women’s Club, received the Woman of the Year Award in 1973, was the first president of the Randolph County Democratic Women, received the Randolph County Democratic Women’s “Kate Hammer Award” for outstanding service in 1980, was an avid square dancer, past president and secretary-treasurer of the Smiling Squares and a member of the Randolph Squares.

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – Ann Kearns Strickland, 66, of Forest Branch Drive, Port Orange, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at her home.
She was a native of Asheboro, was raised in Farmer, graduated from Farmer High School and N.C. Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, graduated from Emory University first class of Family Nurse Practitioner’s Program in Atlanta, Ga., and worked mainly in Public Health her whole career.

ROBBINS – Willie C. Vest, 64, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at his residence.

He was a native of Moore County, former Army Airborne Reservist, past Master of the Elise Lodge 555 A.F & A.M in Robbins, retired supervisor at Burlington Industries after 22 years, worked for Advance Auto in Asheboro for 15 years, owned Vest Auto Sales, was a poultry farmer and was co-owner of Southern Variety and Collectibles in Robbins.
