Marion Griffin – Global warming, part one

Al Gore may be the best known of all the Global Warming (GW) alarmists, but there are a lot of them. And they are gaining great power. Regardless of what the facts may be, a great many of the radical environmentalists have persuaded many in Congress – especially Democrats – and a large segment of society, including the President, that GW is real. Now all these folks are telling us we have only a short time to deal with GW before WE cause great and irreparable harm to our planet!

It all reminds me of Chicken Little and the falling sky. The alarmists’ ranks are filled with wackos and totally dishonest people. But there are some fine, upstanding citizens there too. So before dismissing the theory as just another hoax like evolution I wanted some real facts. Also the theory threatens to consume an enormous amount of taxpayer money, whether GW is real or not. For instance, Cap and Trade will cost everyone a lot of money, rich and poor, black and white.

Real facts are hard to find about GW. Finally I ran across a book by Dr. Roy W. Spencer called Climate Confusion. The book promised straight, understandable information about GW presented in a humorous way. The humor came from some of the really wild things that marked all sides of the debate. And real facts replaced unsubstantiated ideas. I think anyone truly interested in Global Warming would do well to get a copy.

Here is a listing of just a few of Dr. Spencer’s opinions. By the way, Dr. Spencer is a climatologist who was with NASA most of his career.

1. Global Warming probably is real and probably always has existed, being associated with cycles of warming and cooling.

2. Until very recently actual temperatures of the earth’s surface have been essentially undeterminable. Tree rings are certainly not consistent enough to give us these temperatures from the past.

3. Multiple systems are involved in the temperatures on our planet. Each system has many component parts.

4. At present, man’s activities seem not to influence the earth’s temperature in any meaningful way.

5. CO2, the darling of the alarmists, can be affected by human life, animal life, and plant life. However, CO2 is not one of the main players in temperature control as compared to solar activity, cloud systems, and precipitation systems.

6. Since CO2 is essential for plant life, it is incorrectly called a pollutant. Therefore we should look for another reason for CO2 being the center of our attention. Actually we need a plausible reason as to why we are talking about the whole GW theory, since GW seems to be something we can do little about. (Many other climatologists agree with this opinion).

7. Chapter Six of the book is all about the economy – and how GW and some other distractions affect the economy. It is also about how our attitudes toward the economy enter the GW debate. This chapter is worth the price of the book by itself.

8. Dr. Spencer left the readers – on their own – here. The last thing he did in the book was to point out that the Congress and the President in their attempts to do something about what may be a trumped-up problem are bringing harm to all segments of society, BUT THE POOR ARE GETTING THE WORST OF IT.

I believe the answer lies in this very fact. There is a multi-pronged effort in this country to wreck the economy and with it the free enterprise system, the capitalist system. GW is simply part of this. Is a mammoth plot afloat, a conspiracy? There must be a few people who know where the whole scale attempts to grow government and imitate European socialism will take us, but I believe most of even Congressional participants are blindly following political leaders many of whom are equally deceived. It would be bad enough if socialism ended this downward spiral that we have witnessed over the last ten months. But redistribution of wealth, the takeover of vast parts of the economy, and the obvious efforts to weaken the dollar while strangling efforts at recovery of business are only the visible effects of an even more sinister development. After the government gains such control of our lives that individual liberties and personal freedoms are but memories, the Globalists will arrive to pick up the pieces.

Those desiring global governance have already made their presence known. They are those in the Supreme Court who claim international law preempts our Constitution. They are those in Congress, who are pushing the UN Law of the Sea Treaty, which Reagan turned down emphatically in 1982. Many of the people who do not honor our flag, or do not speak of the fact that America has been more generous with worldwide humanitarianism than any other country in the world, or maybe just downgrade our excellence with their words, or speak highly of this dictator or another may be a Globalist. And Globalism will lead to America being picked clean to the bone. If we ever allow this great nation to be subservient to the UN or any world government, you can bid good-bye to your possessions, your liberties, and the wonderful things God has given you as a citizen of the United States. Global Warming is but one part of an effort to gain CONTROL.

If you think this is far-fetched, please read my next column when we will discuss the real Global Warming, not the fake one folks are trying to sell you now. And it will come after globalism becomes a reality. But, don’t worry. You do not have to participate.
