ASHEBORO —
Nicole Bullins "just had a feeling" about winning a new car.
That feeling became reality last Friday night when she turned a key and the door to a 2012 Nissan Versa opened. She became the latest winner in the United Way of Randolph County's annual contest in conjunction with Asheboro Nissan and Asheboro Honda.
Bullins was the fourth of five finalist to try her luck with a key drawn in her name. The other finalists were Miguel Vasquez, Aundrea Azelton, Don Helms and Taylor Wood.
The winner was selected during Christmas on Sunset festivities.
"I didn't think it unlocked," Bullins said, "but I pulled on the door and it opened."
That led to a series of excited leaps into the air by the young wife and mother of three boys. Then she sat in the driver's seat and wiped away tears of joy.
"I just had a feeling God was going to bless me," she said. "It is a blessing."
Bullins is married to Jesse Bullins and their boys are Dylan, age 5, Hunter, 2, and Caleb, 20 months. She's employed by CommunityOne Bank.
"I was ecstatic," she said afterward. "This is unbelievable, surreal."
The contest, held for the past year by United Way, is open to anyone contributing at least $100 during the annual campaign. The car is donated by the employees of the car dealerships. The winner has a choice of a Nissan Versa or a Honda Fit.
