ASHEBORO — Amy Ward received the Sig McCain Volunteer of the Year Award Friday night during annual 4-H festivities.
The honors night, held at the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, recognized youth for their accomplishments during the past year. Yoselin Perez of the Randolph County 4-H Leadership Club, emceed the event.
Ward was cited for helping to organize the Lucky 40-H Clovers three years ago. Then when some 4-H’ers showed interest in shooting, she was instrumental in starting the Super Sharp Shooting Stars.
McCain, the woman whose name is on the award, presented it to Ward. A longtime 4-H supporter, McCain was inducted last year into the inaugural North Carolina 4-H Hall of Fame. She’s been working with Randolph County youth for 29 years.
The Randolph County Farm Bureau was honored with the Friends of 4-H Award. Accepting for the Farm Bureau were Jimmie Moffitt, Lloyd West and Sheela Wright.
The local Farm Bureau office donated $5,700 to 4-H, most of which was used for the electricity program and embryology. Ken Reininger, a longtime 4-H volunteer, presented the award.
County 4-H clubs include the Young Riders Club, Share, Happy Heifers 4-H Dairy Club, Country Kids Livestock Club, Lucky Country 4-H Clovers, the Randolph County Leadership Club, the Seagrove Buccaneers and Super Sharp Shooting Stars.
