ASHEBORO — A busy week on the diamond proved a big success for the Eastern Randolph High School varsity softball squad as the Wildcats captured four victories.

Latest to fall before the hard-charging ER team was Asheboro, as the Wildcats captured a 5-1 Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference win.

ERHS moved to 5-1 in the MPC and 13-1 overall.

Earlier in the week, Eastern Randolph racked up a twinbill sweep of hosting MPC rival Ragsdale by scores of 10-0 and 11-1.

The Wildcats added a 11-6 nonconference win over homestanding Jordan-Matthews of Siler City.

Pacing the triumph over Asheboro was pitcher Jessica Gordon, who allowed just one run and three hits while rolling up 12 strikeouts.

Gina Ritter, Jana Cheek and Dallas Heaton led the Wildcat attack with two hits apiece.

Eastern Randolph sailed to a 10-0 conquest of Ragsdale behind the strong pitching of Allison Buck. Taking a perfect game into the fifth frame, Buck settled for a one-hit shutout with three strikeouts.

Topping the offense was Ritter, going 4-for-4 with three RBI.

Completing the sweep with the11-1 romp, Lee Pippin posted the mound win, allowing just two hits. Heaton knocked a triple and Lauren Brady added a double to lead the attack.

A nine-run outburst in the fifth inning carried the Wildcats to their victory over Jordan-Matthews.

Cheek led the offense with three hits and four RBI.

Katelyn Scheuring and Heaton chipped in with a pair of hits each and Nikki Bartell belted a triple.

Heaton earned the win, scattering six hits and striking out 10.

Wildcats lose in baseball

ASHEBORO – Hosting Asheboro High School posted a 7-2 victory over Eastern Randolph in a recent Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference baseball tilt.

Leading the Blue Comets was senior Colton Baughman, as he kept the Wildcats scoreless until the seventh inning on the way to racking up 12 strikeouts.

Asheboro pushed across a pair of first-inning runs and Baughman made them stand, surrendering just one hit until ER notched a pair of seventh-inning safeties.

In the bottom of the first, Nick Mixon belted a RBI double and Matthew Wheless tacked on a sacrifice fly.

The lead grew to 5-0 in the third inning with Ryne Rush, Mixon and Baughman each collecting hits.

A solo home run off the bat of Mitchell Stontes and a RBI single by Mason Beane stretched the lead to 7-0 in the sixth.

Eastern Randolph reached the scoreboard on a Blue Comet error, then followed by loading the bases. But the Cats only got one run, batted in by John Hicks.

Mixon topped the Comets, going 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored.

Daniel Ritter paced Eastern Randolph with two hits and a run scored while Dalton Clark posted a RBI double.

Eagles fall to Salem Baptist

WINSTON-SALEM – Faith Christian School’s baseball team fell to hosting Salem Baptist last week by a 7-2 score.

The Eagles slipped to 1-4 on the season. Caleb Freeman topped FCS with two hits and a RBI.

FCS kickers drop match

WINSTON-SALEM – Salem Baptist cruised to a 7-0 triumph over Faith Christian School last week. The Eagles dropped to 1-4 for the season.
