NEW: Trinity man dies from stab wound

TRINITY — In what was termed a "soap opera," a domestic dispute near Trinity resulted in the death of one of the participants.

Randolph County Sheriff Maynard Reid said Tuesday the incident that started about 1:30 p.m. June 29 at 5264 Cedar Wood Drive in Trinity, was over the daughter of the deceased man.

Michael Ray Carr, 30, of Trinity, apparently died from a knife wound to the chest after leaving the residence and becoming involved in an altercation with the man believed to be his friend, Michael Shane Doss, 31, of 5977 Welborn Road, Trinity.

According to reports from the Sheriff's Office, Carr and Doss, along with Jacqueline Hall, went to the Cedar Wood Drive home of Carr's ex-girlfriend and the mother of his daughter.

At the home were Melissa Honeycutt (the mother), Roger Dale Evans (believed to be Honeycutt's new boyfriend) and Chad Jessie (Evans brother).

A fight broke out and three people were injured – Hall, Evans and Jessie.

When officers responded in reference to a fight in progress, they found a wrecked vehicle matching the description of Carr's at the intersection of Millers Mill Road and Kennedy Road, in close proximity to Cedar Wood Drive. Inside they found Carr with a stab wound to the chest. He was transported to High Point Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Doss and Hall had fled the accident scene and Doss is reported to have attempted to carjack a Ford F-150 truck occupied by Johnathon Jones, the owner, Julie Andrea Miller and two juveniles. But they fought him off and he was later found by officers under a residence on Walking Stick Road.

Doss was charged with second-degree murder, taken to the Randolph County Jail and placed under a $1 million secured bond. His first court appearance was June 30.

Reid said investigators are still piecing together the story. He said some of the subjects in the case had criminal records and were involved with drugs, which could have been a contributing factor in the fight. Other charges could be filed, he said.

Carr's body was sent to the North Carolina Medical Examiner's Office in Chapel Hill for autopsy.
