CLIMAX — A 66-year-old woman is being held in the Randolph County Jail without bond on a murder charge after officials said she shot her husband during an argument then placed his body in an outbuilding on the property.

Margaret H. Cox, of 3623 Old Red Cross Road, was arrested Friday after deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to the residence in reference to a gunshot injury.

When they arrived, they found 67-year-old Larry Craig Cox in an outbuilding. He was pronounced dead on the scene of a gunshot wound.

According to a press release from the RCSO, detectives determined that the two had a verbal argument on Thursday night and during that argument, a gun was discharged, striking the husband. Margaret Cox was not injured.

An autopsy is being conducted by the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Chapel Hill. The investigation is ongoing.
