Benefit is Saturday for injured soldier

ASHEBORO — A benefit will be held Sept. 4 at Holly Bluff Campground to benefit a U.S. Army specialist from Randolph County recovering from injuries he received from a roadside bomb blast in Iraq last month.

Josh Craven was wounded Aug. 4 and medically evacuated after losing the lower half of his left leg and sustaining severe injuries to his right leg. He is currently at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington and is likely to be there for several months.

A baked goods auction and concert featuring the Holly Bluff Drifters and The Davis Family will be held Sept. 4 to show the community's support for Craven and to help raise funds for medical expenses that won't be covered by his military benefits. Admission is free but donations will be accepted. The campground is located on N.C. 49 South about seven miles from Asheboro.

A baked goods auction will begin at 6 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Those attending are urged to bring lawn chairs. No alcohol will be allowed inside the campgrounds.

To donate a baked goods item for the auction, deliver it to Holly Bluff Campground after 4 p.m. Sept. 4. Contact Joyce Shaw at (336) 302-9548 or Brenda Brewer at (704) 512-8776 for more information.

To help Craven financially, make checks payable to Josh Craven Assistance Fund and mail to:
