Sept. 2: "Dear John" is the Thrifty Thursday Movie at the Sunset Theatre, 234 Sunset Ave. Showings are at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Admission is $5 and includes a small popcorn and small drink.
Sept. 3-Sept. 6: Patriot Golf Day is held at the Asheboro Municipal Golf Course. Players are asked to donate to the Folds of Honor Foundation to provide post secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military members killed or disabled while serving their country. Players who donate $2 will be entered into a drawing for a dozen Callaway Pro golf balls. Visit www.foldsofhonor.com for more info.
Sept. 6: Band of Oz is in concert at 7 p.m in Bicentennial Park as part of the City of Asheboro's Summer Concert Series. Admission is free. Drinks and popcorn will be sold during the concert. Visitors can bring a blanket or chair for seating on the lawn as well as food and non-alcoholic beverages. A dancing area will be available in the paved parking lot next to the stage.
Sept. 11: The City of Asheboro Employees & Retirees Golf Tournament is held at 3 p.m. The format is four-man Captain's Choice. Registration is $10. Visit the golf course or contact Andy Nelson to register.
Sept. 12: The 2010 Dog Days Pool Party is held at the Tot Hill Farm Golf Club pool from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 per person. Dogs must be well socialized and have current vaccinations. The event benefits Randolph County animals.
Sept. 17: Friday Night Bluegrass is at the Sunset Theatre, 234 Sunset Ave. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Call (336) 626-1240 for more information.
Sept. 18: Electronic and Rigid Plastic Recycling Day is held from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Randolph Mall parking lot near Dillard's. Computer and electronic equipment (including microwaves, phones, etc.) and rigid plastics such as coolers and plastic furniture will be accepted. There is a $10 fee per television set. Sept. 25: The 16th annual Rolling in Randolph Century is held at 8 a.m., beginning at Memorial Park. Routes will be 25, 50 and 100 miles. The registration fee is $20 in advance and $25 the day of the event. Visit www.asheboroparksandrecreation.com for a registration form or call (336) 626-1240.
Sept. 25: Strider's Cruisin' Asheboro holds its final 2010 cruise in from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Sept. 26: Sunday at the Sunset with Larry Davis is held at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Sunset Theatre, 234 Sunset Ave. Tickets are $10. Davis will perform two one-hour bluegrass shows to benefit the Sunset Theatre Capital Campaign.Climax
Sept. 25: Providence Grove High School's Marching Patriots holds its first marching competition at the school, 5555 Mack Lineberry Road. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. Admission is $6 for school-aged children and adults and $3 for children 5 and under. Alfred Hitchcock's “The Birds” (1963) is shown at 9 p.m. Sept. 3 at Reynolda House Museum of American Art as part of the Cinema Under the Stars. The film is rated PG-13 and runtime is 119 minutes. It stars Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor, Suzanne Pleshette, and Jessica Tandy. In case of rain, the screening will move inside to the Babcock auditorium. Admission is $5 for non-members, $3 for members and students. Gates open at 8 p.m. Film-goers can come early, bring lawn chairs and blankets, and picnic on the lawn.
