Simply Sandy - March 2010

When was the last time your heart was merry?

Where were you when the lights went out? Hopefully no one has said that to you as of late. We have been so fortunate this winter to not, for the most part, suffer any power outages in our area.

There was that monetary groan one day last month as the lights flickered. You know you just can’t do a whole lot when the power is off. That can be said about every part of our lives.

When the power is off, be it literally or figuratively, you just can’t get anything done.

What gives us power? Be sure and pay your electric bill if you want to maintain that electrical current coming into your home.

If you spot any trees or debris on the lines near your home, don’t try to remove it yourself! Call your local energy provider. That’s right – energy provider. Believe it or not, they really do want to make sure that you are cared for. They want your money too but, as they say, leave those kind of things to professionals.

That ensures that we can see in the dark but what gives us the strength to put one foot in front of the other? We are what we eat. And yes we do need to get enough sleep and enough sunshine.

As of late my vitamin D level has been really low. Been trying to soak up what sunshine there is out there but it hasn’t seemed to have made a difference. We really need vitamin D. So it’s time for some research to see if there is a natural way to get vitamin D¸ maybe a super fruit or more salmon.

For now though it’s off to the nearest drug store for another bottle of vitamin D. We have heard it all our lives, how we need strong bones. Without strong bones we are just an accident waiting to happen. In fact bones can break and then you fall. Ouch!

You would be so proud of me – I actually bought a book about building strong bones. It tells in detail how in simple steps you can maintain and build your bones. Have I read it? Sort of. Have I used it? Sort of.

I guess you could say I have gotten more exercise carrying it back and forth in my bag to work than I have actually using it, always with the thought in mind that I am going to do those exercises during my lunch hour. I have to confess that I can’t want to. There’s just something about exercising other than just the work of it that makes me not want to do it.

When I look at Mom, who has had more fractures and breaks than anyone should have in their lifetime and who stands (if she could stand) as a mere fraction of herself, I know it is imperative that I do something.

So you can see I need to do better. Maybe you do, too. We need to drink more water, eat right, sleep right, exercise, pray and keep our hearts in tune. In the Good Book it says a merry heart doeth good like a medicine. When was the last time your heart was merry? When was mine? Smile.

While it has been a long time since I was an angel clad in white, I still remember memorizing and proudly proclaiming the news of the Savior’s birth. There is still good news to tell.

  • Simply Sandy – November 2011

We've tightened our belts, rolled up our sleeves and still have a mind to work and make things better for ourselves and our country. There are even those among us who dare to dream, against all odds have started businesses, are working and have put other people to work.

There is something to be said for “the first” in our lives, each bringing back a memory all its own. First step, first tooth, first day of school, first date, first kiss, and the list could go on and on. Life is full of firsts.
