GREENSBORO – Junior R.J. Lassister and sophomore Ryan Hammond, both of Liberty and graduates of Eastern Randolph High School, recently finished the 2008 season as members of Guilford College’s football team.
Lassiter, a 5-11, 215-pound defensive back, was one of the top defensive players for the Quakers. He started and played in eight games as a Quakers’ safety before suffering a season-ending injury.
He was ranked fourth on the team with 64 tackles (42 solo) and fourth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with 8.0 tackles per game.
He also made two interceptions and had 6.5 tackles for loss.
His best performance came against Randolph-Macon College where he had 15 tackles (11 solo) and at home versus Methodist University where he made 11 stops (8 solo).
Hammond, a 5-11, 220-pound linebacker, started all 10 games. He ranked third on the team and 11th in the ODAC with 64 tackles (27 solo).
He also ranked sixth in the conference with 10.5 tackles for loss.
His best performance of the season came against Southern Virginia University and Averett University when he had 13 and 10 tackles, respectively.
