ASHEBORO — Hamptonville’s Robert Johnson, son of Nascar Legend Junior Johnson, captured his first career win in the Sportsman division in racing action on Saturday. On the white flag lap he made his move in turn one, diving underneath the Johnny Henderson of Asheboro. It was a drag race down the back. Coming out of Turn 4, he had the lead for the first time of the race and held on to win by a half a car length.
Henderson, Daniel Schadt of Asheboro, Dan Discepoli of Greensboro and Drew Moffitt of Winston Salem rounded out the top five finishers.
In the Late Model Super Truck events Destry Gardner of Asheboro and Jimmy Wallace of Lexington both captured their second wins of the season.
In the Street Stock event Clyde Johnson of Sanford took home the win. Michael Worthington of High Point, John Chatman III of Sophia, Eddie Mincey of Thomasville and Steven Worthington of High Point rounded out the top five .
In the Legends event Daniel Hemric of Concord took home the win. Steven Ross, Kyle Beattie, Brandon McKenzie of Asheboro and Thomas Hartensvield rounded out the top five finishers.
In the U-Car event Zack Bralley of Asheboro took home his first win of the season. Jimmy Cooper of Asheboro, Allen Vance of Randleman, Tracy Hogan of Troy and Richard Jones of Asheboro rounded out the top five finishers.
Coming up Saturday will be Twin 100 Laps for the Late Model Stocks. Also on hand will be the Limited Late Models, Mini Stocks, Custom Steel Fabricators Super Mini Trucks and Pure Stocks. Grandstands will open at 6 p.m. and the race gets under way at 8 p.m.
